About us History Manchester Incorporated Law Library has many splendid features and it is now a Grade II* listed building. Built by the famous architect Thomas Hartas in 1884, it is perhaps unique in providing Reading Room and lending facilities to both solicitors and barristers. The building is styled in the Venetian Gothic style whilst the stained glass windows and ceiling on the first floor are notable. The window panels were the work of S. Evans of Birmingham, some depicting bewigged judges.(Pevsner Architectural Guides,2004) The fine stone facade plays its full part in maintaining the character of Kennedy Street: 'One of the best little streets in Manchester' (Philip Atkins', Guide Across Manchester,1976). Facilities The Reading Room is available for hire to members and non members on request. It has recently been featured on several BBC television programmes including "Clocking Off" and "The Innocence Project", (2006). |
