Joining us

Membership is open to solicitors' practices on a corporate basis and barristers in chambers. Other applicants will be considered on a case by case basis. A copy of the membership application form can be downloaded from the renewal links below - this also contains details of the cost of membership.

As a company limited by the guarantee of its members, unfortunately the constitution of the society means that Manchester Incorporated Law Library Society cannot accept requests for research or access to the collections by non-members.

    Benefits and Facilities

In addition to a wide range of legal texts, reports, journals and legislation (see the Collections page) members are welcome to draw on the experience of the library team who will aim to assist them with research.

The library has access to the major electronic databases and can access these on behalf of members (licence permitting). The Library has a broadband internet connection and the latest electronic research tools. Caselaw, legislation and various journal articles can be obtained from Westlaw and Lexis (Subject to copyright)

There is a photocopier for members' use and copies are charged at 20p per sheet. Members may request telephone orders to be posted (20p per sheet) or faxed (50p per sheet) for which the handling charges start at £1 per 5 sheets.

    Loans

The loan period is two working days and items can be renewed by telephone or email providing they have not been requested by another member. Items out on loan can be "reserved" for when they are returned.

Fines for overdue books are charged at a rate of 10p per day per book for the first week and 20p per day per book thereafter.

Current Law, legal dictionaries, directories, codes of conduct and handbooks are kept in the Reference Collection together with current editions of the more popular textbooks. The master catalogue of the lending collection of the textbooks can be searched electronically or manually in the library either by author or subject.

    WiFi

Members can now access the internet via a wireless connection at no additional charge.
